120 years of Helkama
This year, Helkama celebrates its 120th anniversary
The renovated Helkama factory produces more than 25,000 bicycles each year, most of which are electric bikes. Our e-bikes go through an average of 20 skilled pairs of hands on their journey from components to the finished product. Helkama’s bikes and e-bikes have been awarded the Key Flag symbol – a sign of Finnish high-quality manufacturing and work.
Helkama’s bicycle plant has been operating in Hanko since 1953 and at its current location of Santalantie since 1966.
Helkama’s story began in Tampere in 1905 when the founder of Helkama, Heikki J. Hellman, founded a business selling bicycles and sewing machines. Over the years, Helkama’s operations have expanded and developed in many directions spanning multiple industries – into Helkama companies. After 120 years, the company remains a family business.
